Math Day 2025

Wednesday, February 5, 2025, 9:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., held at Lovett Auditorium and Faculty Hall (3rd floor). Check-in begins at 8:15 a.m.

Math Day 2025 includes a math competition intended for students at any level of high school math knowledge and various math-related activities. More than a dozen high schools from the West Kentucky area are expected to bring students to participate in the event.

The math competition includes two different exams, broken down by current class year. While both exams will contain questions of varying difficulty and include some reasoning questions, the underlying topics will be unique. The Lower Level Exam, geared towards freshman and sophomore students, will include questions on algebra, geometry and mathematical reasoning. The Upper Level Exam for juniors and seniors will contain questions on trigonometry and mathematical reasoning, in addition to other upper level high school material (calculus, probability, statistics, etc.). Awards will be given to the top five students on each level of exam, the top three teams, and the top performing school.

The math-related activities include:

  • The 7th annual event for the Jesse D. Jones Lecture Series: an alumnus talk by Jessica Lugo. After the talk, high school students will be able to ask questions about pursuing a career in mathematics.
  • Team competition, where students in teams of 3 – 4 try to work through as many hands-on activities as possible in the time allotted.
