Admission to this degree program is conditional for first year. Continuation in the program is dependent upon advice of applied teacher and departmental chair after assessment of performance talent, achievement, and general musicianship.

Six successful semesters of MUS 101 are required. To successfully complete the course each semester the student must gain credit for 10 approved recitals and have no more than one absence from required assembly programs.

All BM Music majors are expected to fulfill the Aural Skills, Theory, and Keyboard requirement. As well as the Music History requirement.
Aural Skills MUS 170, MUS 173, MUS 270, MUS 273 and Theory MUS 171, MUS 174, MUS 271, MUS 274 must be taken in sequence, with a "C" or better to continue in the sequence. Keyboard MUS 172, MUS 175, MUS 272, and MUS 275 must be taken in sequence, with a "C" or better to continue.
Music History MUS 381 must be taken first in the Music History Sequence, and the grade of "C" or better is required to continue the sequence. MUS 382 and MUS 383 may be taken in any order.
Ensembles (8 Hours)

Students are required to participate in a major ensemble involving their primary instrument concurrent with every semester of applied music study. Major ensembles include Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, University Orchestra, Concert Choir, Vox Lumina, Una Voce. Some performance areas have more specific requirements. Students should consult their advisors and applied lesson teachers for detailed requirements.
