What happens if I don鈥檛 register my vehicle? Vehicles not registered or parking accounts that are considered chronic offenders
may be booted and/or towed at the owner鈥檚 expense.
I have two cars, do I need to buy two permits?
You are able to have multiple vehicles on your account at no additional cost, but
if another person is driving those vehicles, they must purchase their own permit.
For example, if you have two cars attached to only your permit and they are found
on campus at the same time, then you will receive a $100 False Registration violation.
I work remotely, but access campus by using the library, Wellness center, or other
buildings on campus. Do I have to purchase a V-Permit? Yes. Any faculty/staff or student accessing campus on a regular basis or utilizing
campus resources must purchase a v-permit. If you have questions regarding the type
of v-permit you are eligible for, please contact Parking Services at 270.809.4812.
Can I have a visitor permit? A visitor is someone not enrolled at or employed by the university. Students, Faculty,
and Staff are NEVER Visitors. This applies to all spaces designated as visitor. Parking
in any space reserved for visitors will lead to a $90 visitor zone violation.
Can I share a permit with another person?
There is only ONE situation where a permit may be shared. Employees within the same
family who share only ONE vehicle to drive to work are eligible to register for one
permit. Under this exception, only one vehicle is allowed on the permit. Please contact
Parking Services for more information regarding this situation.
If a member of this family is a student, then either that family will be restricted
to the student鈥檚 parking zone OR the student will have to purchase a separate permit.
Any other situation where individuals are caught sharing a permit will result in a
$100 False Registration violation.
What counts as family? Family is defined as two or more people related by birth, marriage, or adoption residing
in the same housing unit.
My car is in the shop and I am using another car without a permit. What can I do? You can add the new vehicle to your permit at anytime through your parking portal.
I鈥檝e registered the car that I normally drive and park on campus, but after driving
it home for the weekend, I come back to campus on Monday in a different car. What
should I do? Add the vehicle to your parking account. Please be sure to do this before parking
your vehicle on campus to avoid citations.
I鈥檝e purchased a new vehicle and need to park it on campus. What should I do? Add the vehicle to your parking account. Please be sure to do this before parking

I purchased a new vehicle and only have a temporary tag. What should I do? Add the vehicle to your parking account using the temporary tag number in place of
the license plate number. Once you receive your license plate, you may remove your
temporary tag from your account and add your new license plate number. Be sure to
do this before parking your vehicle on campus to avoid parking citations.
If more than one family member works or attends classes on Murray State's main campus
and the family has multiple vehicles, how many v-permits should be purchased? A V-Permit should be purchased for each person.
If more than one family member works on Murray State's main campus, and the family
have only one vehicle, how many v-permits should be purchased? Only one blue or purple permit (based on where you intend to park) should be purchased.
If more than one family member works and/or attends classes on MSU main campus, and
the family has only one vehicle, what type and how many permits should be purchased? If you are willing to park only in the student zone of yellow or red, you may purchase
only one v-permit. However, if the employee wants to park in the faculty/staff blue
zones, both a faculty/staff permit and a student permit should be purchased.
If one person works and/or attends classes on MSU main campus and they switch between
two or more different cars when parking on campus, how many permits should be purchased?
If you are the only driver parking those vehicles on campus, then you need only purchase
one permit.
Only one vehicle may be on campus at a time, but as many vehicles as needed may be
added to the account.
How will I know what decision the Judicial Board made on my appeal? You will receive an email with the results of your appeal once a decision has been
made.
I think I need accessible parking, but I don鈥檛 have a state placard. What can I do? Even if you don鈥檛 have a state placard, you still have options. You can find out more
information about qualifying for accessible parking by contacting Parking Services,
Student Disability Services, and the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and
Access.
I broke my leg and am on crutches for a while. Can I use the Disability spaces? You must contact Parking Services, Student Disability Services, or IDEA before parking
in a disability space. Once you鈥檝e contacted one of these services, the necessary
parking accommodation may be made to provide the appropriate eligible accessible parking
for you.
I parked my car and when I returned my car had been booted/towed and I don鈥檛 know
why. If your car has been booted or towed, your vehicle was parked illegally while you
have an unpaid parking balance of $150 or more. You are also eligible for a tow if
your vehicle is illegally blocking access.
I have several heavy and large items to take into a building. What should I do?
If you are bringing items into the residential colleges, there are timed loading zones
available to you at Fast Track, Winslow, Lee Clark, Springer, Franklin, and James
Richmond Residential Colleges.
If you are bringing items to another building, you can contact Parking Services to
request permission to use the loading zones on the south side of campus.
My organization is hosting an event, what do I do? You can request parking permissions for your event attendees via email to msu.parkingoffice@murraystate.edu with a minimum notice of 72 hours/3 days in advance of the scheduled event. You can
even request as soon as one year in advance.
When are Parking V-Permits required? Parking on campus is by V-Permit only. This is enforced 24/7.
Where are signs located for every parking lot? There is a sign at the entrance of every lot on campus indicating its zone.
Can I back into a space if I have a front license plate? No. Pulling through and backing into spaces is prohibited.
Can I park in blue zones on the residential side (North of Chestnut) of campus after
4:30pm and on weekends? No. Blue zones on the residential side of campus are restricted to blue permits 24/7.
Can students purchase blue permits? No, only faculty/staff are eligible for blue permits.
I am working/studying remotely and/or taking web courses, but I still utilize the

Can I park on the side of the road as long as my flashers are on? No. Using flashers does not constitute legal parking. You will receive a citation
if you are parked illegally--even with your flashers on.
Can I park in a disability spot to quickly run groceries into my dorm room as long
as I have my flashers on? No. There are Loading Zones located at Fast Track, Winslow, Lee Clark, Springer, Franklin
and James Richmond Residential Colleges for this purpose. Parking in disability without
permission will lead to a $250 citation.
Can I put my friend's car on my account if they do not have a permit? No. Everyone driving to campus must have their own permit. Doing this is considered
false registration and is a $100 violation.
Can I get a citation while I'm in the car? You are always eligible for a citation when you are parked illegally.
What if I can't find a spot? Having a permit doesn鈥檛 guarantee a favorite spot, just the opportunity to park on
campus. When zones are full, there is ample parking at Roy Stewart Stadium, the lot
at 17th and Hamilton, and the Sorority Suites lot at Brentwood and Poplar.
Why did I get a citation when the car next to me did not? Parking Services issues e-citations. The information regarding your violation is received
through your email and not a paper ticket. This means that if another vehicle is parked
illegally, you will not see their citation.
Can I park wherever I want after 4 p.m.? Parking is enforced 24/7. You still have to have a permit to park on campus no matter
what time it is, and you鈥檙e still eligible for citations at night.
