Safety and Support for Grad Students
Resources
Murray State Police Department
The Police Department is responsible for safety and security of the university community, properties owned, leased, occupied or operated by °ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û, which includes properties throughout the west Kentucky region. The Police Department comprises two primary entities: the Parking Services/Business Office and the University Police. The University Police is the law enforcement branch and is staffed by 15 sworn law enforcement officers and a communications section in support. The Police Department is guided by the campus-oriented policing philosophy as it provides law enforcement services to the university community. The police officer functions in various roles at the university. Officers are mentors, counselors, enforcers and partners. Police officers are valued members of the university community interacting daily with faculty, staff, students and visitors. They take advantage of opportunities to assist various groups, departments, and individuals in meeting the challenges of a diverse educational setting. Police also offers nighttime escort service through the Racer Patrol (call 2222 on campus). This popular service ensures peace of mind to students required to walk to and from parking lots and buildings after dark. The Police and Information Center is located on North 16th Street across from Wells Hall. The office is open for business from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, but is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call 270.809.2222 to reach the Police Office. Call 911 for serious problems.

Services at the Psychological Center (270.809.2504), 401 Wells Hall, are provided by trained clinical psychology practicing interns and supervised by a clinical psychologist. The Women’s Center, on the second floor of Ordway Hall, provides a variety of services including walk-in crisis counseling and support groups.
