Tracks to Explore

Tracks are a specified cluster of classes that help you to hone your knowledge and skills in a specific aspect of the major. These are typically less than what is required for a minor. Within Computer Science there are two tracks - Game development and Data Science. The Data science is currently under the approval process.

Students will complete the area requirements for computer science and add the following classes for the track in data science. As some classes are offered only once a year (and may have prerequisites), PLEASE plan ahead and work with your advisor and take the appropriate classes at the right time.

Co-Requirements:
- Complete the following:
  - MAT250 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry I (5)
  - MAT335 - Matrix Theory and Linear Algebra (3)

- Complete 1 of the following
  - Complete the following:
    - STA135 - Introduction to Probability and Statistics (4)
  - Complete the following:
    - STA440 - Mathematical Statistics I (3)
  - Complete the following:
    - CIS343 - Data Analysis: Inferences and Prediction (2)
    - CIS243 - Data Analysis: Preparation and Visualization (2)
Data Science Track Requirements:

- Complete the following:
  - CSC375 - Introduction to Machine Learning (3)
  - CSC508 - Advanced Machine Learning (3)
  - CIS543 - Advanced Business Analytics (3)
- Complete at least 2 of the following:
  - STA465 - Applied Statistics I (4)
  - STA567 - Introduction to Time Series Analysis (3)
  - STA568 - Bayesian Methods (3)

Besides the core requirements for the major, students will have to complete the following co-requirements and restricted electives.

Co-requirements:

  - ENG214 - Introduction to Creative Writing (3)

  - Complete the following:
    - PHY235 - Mechanics, Heat and Wave Motion (4)
    - PHY236 - Mechanics, Heat and Wave Motion Laboratory (1)

Restricted Electives:
- Complete the following:
  - CSC275 - Introduction to Game Programming (3)
