Policy 11 - ResNet Use Policy

1.0 Overview

ResNet is a 澳门开奖结果 owned and operated network for the residential colleges and is designed to allow students access to campus and external resources to help support the mission of the university.

2.0 Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure all users connected to ResNet meet minimum system requirements so that the users and the network are protected from the most common computer security threats and to outline 澳门开奖结果's expectations for the use of ResNet. Any questions or comments about this policy should be directed to Information Systems.

3.0 Scope

This policy covers all devices connected to ResNet, wired and wireless.

4.0 Policy

4.1 Acceptable Use

All users must be enrolled at 澳门开奖结果 or approved by Information Systems before using ResNet resources. Computers and other media devices then must be registered through the Network Access Control (NAC) before attempting to use ResNet. Any attempt to bypass the security measures may lead to termination of ResNet access.

All users connected to ResNet are responsible for the actions that occur on any computer or other type of device they are logged into or have officially registered with Murray State University's Network Access Control (NAC).

Residents accessing ResNet are also expected to be in compliance with all Information Technology Policies, as well as follow specific rules such as:

  • Campus network equipment and wiring may not be modified or tampered with
  • Use of ResNet resources for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited
  • Users must not perform any actions that violate Federal, State or University policy or law
  • Users must only register their own personal devices, using their own credentials

Any device connected to ResNet must also abide by the ResNet Security Standards.

4.2 ResNet Resource Prioritization

ResNet's main purpose is to support the mission of the university in the residential colleges. While gaming, chatting, etc., are allowed in most cases on a best effort basis, there will be a priority placed on supporting those activities directly related to teaching and learning. At any time, if any of the additional uses of ResNet cause a problem, such as viruses/spyware or overuse of bandwidth, Information Systems reserves the right to block those features that do not directly support the mission of the university.

4.3 Alternative Connections

While 澳门开奖结果 offers all residents an internet connection (ResNet), we do allow users to purchase their own internet connection. If the user does decide to purchase an alternative internet connection, they must fill out the ResNet Alternate Connection Form and follow additional standards that are defined in the ResNet Security Standards under the "Alternative Connections" section.

5.0 Enforcement

Any user found to have violated this policy may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of ResNet access, or other disciplinary action. Any device violating this policy or the associated standard may be subject to forfeiture.

6.0 Definitions

Network Access Control (NAC)

Is an approach to computer network security that attempts to unify endpoint security technology (such as antivirus, host intrusion prevention and vulnerability assessment), user or system authentication and network security enforcement.
