Town & Gown community band and chorale present free Independence Day concert on July 4th

MURRAY, Ky. 鈥� The 澳门开奖结果 Town & Gown Community Band and Chorale will present a
free Independence Day themed concert as part of Murray鈥檚 annual Freedom Fest celebration
on the evening of Thursday, July 4th at 7 p.m. inside Lovett Auditorium on Murray
State鈥檚 campus. The concert is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.
Dr. Bradley Almquist, Murray State professor of music and director of chorale activities,
will conduct the Community Chorale. Dr. Ashley Shoupe, Murray State assistant professor
of music and assistant director of bands, will conduct the Community Band. Audience
members can relax in the air-conditioned comfort of the recently renovated Lovett
Auditorium as they enjoy holiday favorites such as 鈥淎merica the Beautiful,鈥� 鈥淪tars
and Stripes Forever鈥� and 鈥淟et Freedom Ring,鈥� to name a few. Readings of several iconic
American documents, such as the Preamble to the Constitution, the Gettysburg Address
and the Declaration of Independence, will be interspersed with the musical selections.
鈥淭his program celebrates the vision our founding fathers and mothers had for freedom
and liberty through uniquely American music, spirituals, folk songs, marches, Broadway
tunes and iconic patriotic music,鈥� said Almquist. 鈥淚t is one of my favorite concerts
each year.鈥�
鈥淭his family-friendly and patriotic concert is a wonderful way for community members
of all ages to begin their July 4th festivities,鈥� said Jennifer Robertson, coordinator
of Murray State鈥檚 Town & Gown Partnership. 鈥淲e can all come together as neighbors
and Americans and enjoy the musical talents of our wonderful local musicians and the
beloved musical pieces they will perform, and then still have time to take in the
fireworks display later in the evening.鈥�
The Town & Gown Partnership is an ongoing collaboration between 澳门开奖结果
and the surrounding community that aims to enhance the quality of living and learning
for everyone in the community. Town & Gown Partners include leaders from Murray State
University administration and student government, local and state government, industry,
small business, banking, health care providers and other community organizations.
Membership fees help fund community projects and events such as these summer concerts.
