What is Occupational Safety and Health?
Do you like to help others, improve lives, and keep others safe? The focus of the occupational safety and health profession is to prevent events that cause harm to people, property, and the environment.
What are the benefits of an Occupational Safety and Health minor?
A minor in occupational safety and health will provide you with a solid foundation in learning what the safety profession entails, including an introductory course, as well as courses in ergonomics, standards, and industrial hygiene. You also get to select from a variety of safety electives ranging from emergency medical training, environmental, construction safety, physical agents, and systems safety.

- OSH 192 Introduction to Occupational Safety and Health (3)
- OSH 353 Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders in the Workplace (3)
- OSH 387 OSH Standards (3)
- OSH 420 Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene (3)
Electives (9hours)
Choose 9 hours:
- OSH 101 Emergency Medical Training (6)
- OSH 320 Environmental and Occupational Health Engineering Technology (3)
- OSH 384 Construction Safety (3)
- OSH 425 Physical Agents (3)
- OSH 452 Systems Approach to Hazard Control (3)
Total Course Requirements (21 hours)
Six hours must be upper-level courses completed in residence at Murray State.
Courses may require prerequisites.
